TODAY’S FACTORS AND EVENTS

London stocks looked set to gain at the open on Tuesday amid growing optimism over a China-US trade deal.

The FTSE 100 was called to open 36 points higher at 7,405.

Upbeat comments from US commerce secretary Wilbur Ross over the weekend over trade relations with China were expected to continue to support sentiment.

CMC Markets analyst David Madden said: “During the course of Trump’s trade dispute with China, he suggested he could turn up the heat on Brussels, but remarks yesterday helped chip away at some of those fears.”
