FTSE Futures Morning Update on 30 July 2019

The FTSE 100 Futures is trading at 7,646.80 up with +0.17% percent or +13.30 point. The CAC 40 Futures is trading at 5,597.51  with a loss of -0.064% percent or -3.59 point. The DAX Futures is trading at 12,363.80 with a loss of -0.46% percent or -57.70 point. The EURO Stoxx 50 Futures trading at 3,512.00   with a loss of -0.23% percent or -8.00 point.

TODAY’S FACTORS AND EVENTS

Stocks are set for a higher start as the pound continues to reel under the pressure of the new government’s plans for Brexit.

As of 0825 BST, the FTSE 100 was being called to open 28 points higher at 7,714, with the pound trading down by 0.57% to 1.0901 against the single currency and by 0.60% to 1.2146 versus the US dollar.

Commenting on Sterling’s woes, Michael Hewson, chief market analyst at CMC Markets UK said: “The pound hasn’t exactly been flavour of the month in recent weeks anyway, but these losses have accelerated further since the weekend, after Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he had no intention of meeting EU leaders in person until they showed a willingness to change their position on the Irish backstop, and withdrawal agreement.

For the day the FTSE 100 closed at 7,702.36   up with +0.20% percent or +15.75 point. France’s CAC  40 closed at 5,603.16 up with +0.037% percent or +2.06 point.Germany’s DAX closed at 12,398.68  with a loss of -0.15% percent or -20.26 point.

For the day the Dow is trading at 27,221.35 up with +0.11% percent or +28.90 point. The S&P 500 is trading at 3,020.97  with a loss of -0.16% percent or -4.89 point. The Nasdaq Composite is trading at 8,293.33  with a loss of -0.44% percent or -36.88 point.

In other parts of world, Japan’s Nikkei 225 is trading at 21,709.31  with a loss of -0.43% percent or -92.51 point. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is trading at 28,182.77  up with +0.27% percent or +76.36 point. China’s Shanghai Composite is trading at 2,952.34  up with +0.39% percent or +11.33 point. India’s BSE Sensex is trading at 37,768.79  up with +0.22% percent or +82.42 point at 12:15 PM.
