FTSE Futures Morning Update on 31 July 2019

The FTSE 100 Futures is trading at 7,558.20 with a loss of -0.42% percent or -31.80 point. The CAC 40 Futures is trading at 5,513.82  up with +0.050% percent or +2.76 point. The DAX Futures is trading at 12,153.30 up with +0.32% percent or +38.80 point. The EURO Stoxx 50 Futures trading at 3,454.00  up with +0.09% percent or +3.00 point.

TODAY’S FACTORS AND EVENTS

Stocks are being called to start the session slightly higher despite reports that the first round of face-to-face trade talks between US and Chinese negotiators since the 28 June G20 leaders’ summit in Japan.

According to Bloomberg News, the talks appeared to have ended almost as quickly as they had begun.

In parallel, US futures were still pointing to a higher start to trading at the opening bell in New York, with sentiment boosted by better than expected quarterly numbers out of tech giant Apple.

Nonetheless, the market spotlight on Wednesday will be firmly on the US Federal Reserve, whose policymakers are widely expected to deliver a 25 basis point cut in the target range for official short-term interest rates as ‘insurance’ against the risk of a protracted downturn given the multiple headwinds from overseas.

For the day the FTSE 100 closed at 7,617.30  with a loss of -0.39% percent or -29.47 point. France’s CAC  40 closed at 5,515.43 up with +0.079% percent or +4.37 point.Germany’s DAX closed at 12,155.72  with 0.08% percent or +9.36  point.

For the day the Dow is trading at 27,198.02  with a loss of -0.086% percent or -23.33 point. The S&P 500 is trading at 3,013.18 with a loss of -0.26% percent or -7.79 point. The Nasdaq Composite is trading at 8,273.61  with a loss of -0.24% percent or -19.71 point.

In other parts of world, Japan’s Nikkei 225 is trading at 21,521.53 with a loss of -0.86% percent or -187.78 point. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is trading at 27,777.75  with a loss of -1.31% percent or -368.75 point. China’s Shanghai Composite is trading at 2,932.51  with a loss of -0.67% percent or -19.83 point. India’s BSE Sensex is trading at 37,448.44  up with +0.14% percent or +51.20 point at 12:15 PM.
