FTSE Futures Morning Update on 18 January 2019

The FTSE 100 Futures is trading at 6,804.80 up with +0.08% percent or +5.40 point. The CAC 40 Futures is trading at 4,818.50 up with +0.18% percent or +8.50 point. The DAX Futures is trading at 10,978.80 up with +0.18% percent or +19.30 point. The EURO Stoxx 50 Futures trading at 3,076.50 with  +0.20% percent or +6.00 point.

TODAY’S FACTORS AND EVENTS

London stocks shivered lower on yesterday amid fresh concerns about global trade relations, worries about the domestic housing market and a late rally for the pound, but solid updates from the likes of Primark owner AB Foods and Sage Group helped to minimise losses.

“It goes right to the heart of the unresolved IP issues with China. China is unlikely to shrug this off which is creating a risk-off environment,” said London Capital Group analyst Jasper Lawler, adding that signs of retaliation from China could see stocks sink further.

On home turf, having survived Wednesday’s no-confidence vote in her government, Theresa May will now work on her Brexit ‘Plan B’, which she has until 21 January to put forward. On Thursday morning she met opposition leaders and Brexiteers from her own party in Downing Street this morning after opening talks overnight.

For the day the FTSE 100 closed at 6,862.68  with a loss of -0.47% percent or -32.34 point. France’s CAC  40 closed at 4,810.74 up with +0.51% percent or +24.57 point. Germany’s DAX closed at 10,931.24  up with +0.36% percent or +39.45 point.

For the day the Dow is trading at 24,207.16 up with +0.59% percent or +141.57 point. The S&P 500 is trading at 2,616.10 up with +0.22% percent or +5.80 point. The Nasdaq Composite is trading at +7,034.69 up with +0.15% percent or +10.86 point.

In other parts of world, Japan’s Nikkei 225 is trading at 20,402.27 with a loss of -0.20% percent or -40.48 point. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is trading at 26,799.15  with a loss of -0.38% percent or -102.95 point. China’s Shanghai Composite is trading at 2,559.64  with a loss of -0.42% percent or  -10.79 point. India’s BSE Sensex is trading at 36,329.46  up with +0.022% percent or +8.17 point at 12:15 PM.
