FTSE Futures Morning Update on 23 October

UK PRE MARKET

The FTSE 100 Futures are trading at 7,482.2 with a loss of  -0.20% percent or -14.3 point. The CAC 40 Futures are trading at 5,366.5 with a loss of –0.09% percent or  -5.0 point . The DAX Futures are trading at 12,984.5 for up with   +0.04% percent or +5.5 point . The EURO Stoxx 50 Futures are trading at 3,592.0  with a loss of –0.17% percent or -6.0   point.

TODAY’S FACTORS AND EVENTS

London stocks were set to nudge a touch lower at the open on Monday as the pound gains ground against the dollar and the euro.

The FTSE 100 was expected to open three points lower at 7,520.

On the data front, the CBI industrial trends survey is at 1100 BST, while third-quarter UK GDP is due out on Wednesday.

Sterling appeared to be getting a lift after German Chancellor Angela Merkel acknowledged that the EU side also needed to move on its negotiating position in the Brexit talks.

CMC Markets analyst Michael Hewson said: “This would appear to be a significant shift of tone at a time when the EU stance has previously shown no signs of compromise. What also appeared to be significant was an admission by Donald Tusk that the separate internal EU27 talks on trade would take UK proposals into account.”

For the day the FTSE 100 closed at 7,515.66 with a loss of –0.10% percent or  –7.81 point. France’s CAC 40 closed at 5,375.35 for up with +0.06% percent or  +2.97 point. Germany’s DAX closed at 12,990.45 with a loss of –0.01% percent or – 0.83 point.

WORLD MARKETS

For the day the Dow are trading at 23,328.63 for up with +0.71% percent or +165.59 point. The S&P 500 are trading at 2,575.21 for up  with +0.51% percent or +13.11 point. The Nasdaq Composite are trading at 6,629.05 for up with  +0.36% percent or + 23.99point.

In other parts of world, Japan’s Nikkei 225 are trading at 21,696.65  for up with +1.11% percent or +239.01 point. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng are trading at 28,334.94  with a loss of –0.53% percent or  –152.30 point. China’s Shanghai Composite are trading at 3,380.70 for up with +0.06% percent or  +2.05 point. India’s BSE Sensex are trading at 32,356.67   with a loss of –0.10%  percent or –33.29 point at 12:15 PM .
